10th December 2023, we packed and moved with 17 bags and luggage with a one – way ticket to Chiang Mai Thailand, beginning our journey of freedom as a family!
Time flies when you’re living an adventure. It’s already ONE YEAR but it feels like just yesterday that my family and I took a leap of faith, leaving the busy city of Singapore for the tranquil beauty of Chiang Mai. What started as an uncertain move has turned into one of the most rewarding and enriching years of our lives.
Our journey has been more than a change of scenery—it’s been a transformation of our lifestyle, our relationships, and our outlook on life. As I reflect on this past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the experiences we’ve shared, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the memories we’ve created as a family.
A Leap Into the Unknown
Relocating to Chiang Mai was both exciting and nerve-wracking. We left behind the comfort of familiar surroundings to embrace an entirely new way of life. Adjusting to a slower pace, learning the culture and language, and even navigating the roads felt daunting at first. But, as the days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Chiang Mai began to feel like home.
Quality Time as a Family
One of the biggest highlights of this year has been the time we’ve spent together as a family. Life in Singapore was fast-paced,
with so many commitments pulling us in different directions. Chiang Mai has given us the chance to slow down and truly connect. From exploring lush mountains and bustling night markets to sharing laughter over countless Thai meals, every moment has been a treasure.
Adventures and Milestones
This year has been packed with adventures—each more memorable than the last. We’ve hiked trails that opened up to breathtaking views, appreciated the rich culture and history of Thailand, and even learned martial arts together. For me personally, training in self-defense and mixed martial arts at Core Combat Chiang Mai has been transformative. It’s a discipline that has taught me resilience, focus, and fighting for what you want.
3 Key Learnings From This Journey
- Never Settle for “Okay loh”
This year has reminded me of the importance of not settling for “okay” in any aspect of life. Whether it’s relationships, personal growth, or professional pursuits, striving for excellence and fulfillment brings a sense of purpose and joy that “okay loh” never can. - You Don’t Need Everything in Place for an Adventure and Growth
Our move wasn’t perfectly planned, and there were moments of uncertainty. No house, no school, no vehicle, no family etc! But that’s where the magic lies—adventures and growth happen when you embrace the unknown and trust the process. - Crisis Creates Opportunities
Challenges are inevitable, but they also open doors to new possibilities. Moving to a new country was a result of a crisis our family went through, but it pushed us to think differently, adapt, and ultimately grow stronger as individuals and as a family.
Looking Ahead and an Invitation
As I reflect on this milestone, I’m filled with excitement for the future. This year has been a foundation for the life we’re building here in Chiang Mai—a life filled with purpose, adventure, and love.
I’m thrilled to share that this Saturday, December 14th at 4 – 530 PM, I’ll be launching my book in Chiang Mai, From Rat to Warrior, at Core Combat Chiang Mai. This book encapsulates my personal journey and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
If you’re in Chiang Mai, I’d love for you to join me for this special event. And for those who can’t make it, stay tuned for an exciting offer which will be shared on my social media channels—I’ll also be sharing a special offer for the e-book version of From Rat to Warrior this weekend!
In the meantime, enjoy a short trailer version of my story here.
Here’s to another year of adventures, growth, and unforgettable moments in this beautiful city we now call home.
