Had a taster session of the Rite of Passage Camp for some boys and young men!

Why Boys Need a Rite of Passage — and What We Can Do About It

In every ancient culture, boys became men not by chance, but through intention. They were guided, challenged, and initiated through a process known as the Rite of Passage.

In today’s modern societies, however, that path has gone missing. Boys grow up surrounded by noise, pressure, and distraction—but without the guidance of elder men, without challenge, and without a clear moment when they step across the threshold into manhood.

They graduate from school, get a job, maybe even start a family—but many still feel like boys in men’s bodies, lacking confidence, direction, and purpose.

What’s Happening to Our Boys Today?

Boys growing up into bodies of men but still pretty much a “boy” inside.

When boys are not properly initiated into manhood, they often:

  • Drift without purpose or identity
  • Struggle with self-doubt, emotional instability, or unhealthy coping mechanisms
  • Seek validation in shallow ways (social media, peer pressure, risky behaviors)
  • Fail to develop the resilience and courage needed for real-life challenges

Instead of becoming grounded, confident men, they become stuck—passive, angry, or apathetic. Without strong male guidance and brotherhood, they miss out on becoming who they were truly made to be.

What Is a Rite of Passage?

Daily group sessions together with the coaches and mentors.

A rite of passage is a structured journey that helps a boy shed his old skin and step into a new identity as a man. It involves challenge, reflection, teaching, and community.

In our program, we draw inspiration from ancient traditions and modern coaching to create an experience that is intense, purposeful, and safe.

Over the course of four days and three nights, boys go through:

  • Separation: Removed from their usual environment to reflect, reset, and gain perspective
  • Transformation: Physical training, personal coaching, and meaningful challenge
  • Reintegration: Ceremony and acknowledgment from mentors and parents

It’s not just about toughness. It’s about building character, discipline, emotional strength, and a sense of responsibility.

Our Role as Parents, Mentors & Brothers

Boys cannot initiate themselves. They need older men to guide, challenge, and call them up.

That’s where we come in.

Whether you are a father, mother, mentor, or big brother figure—you have a role to play. Not by doing it alone, but by creating or joining intentional spaces where boys are seen, tested, and welcomed into manhood.

Let’s not wait for society to teach them. Let’s show them what it means to be strong, kind, responsible, and grounded.

The Rite of Passage BootCamp (Chiang Mai, 10–13 July 2025)

Together with Coach Sakan, Founder and Head Coach of Core Combat Chiang Mai, we aim to bring the Rite of Passage Bootcamp experience to more young men today!

This July, we are launching our first official Rite of Passage BootCamp in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Over 4 days and 3 nights at Village Green Retreat Centre, boys aged 12–18 will go through a carefully crafted journey led by trained coaches and mentors. Through martial arts, fitness, coaching, and group rituals, they will be equipped to step forward into manhood—with clarity, confidence, and courage.

If you’re a parent or mentor who believes this matters and would like to explore if this is a fit for your son, feel free to reach out to me directly. I’d be happy to have a chat.

This is more than just a camp. It’s a turning point.

Because not all boys become men. Only those who rise to the challenge.
