As a teenager growing up in Singapore, I faced tremendous stress and challenges, navigating through school, the loss of my mom and meeting up to the expectations of others.

As a result, I’ve developed a deep calling and passion to support youths and families and started as a social worker in the community from 2004 to 2022 at REACH Community Services Society, journeying through with them in the social and emotional parts of their lives.

While I journeyed along as a social worker with many underprivileged and the marginalized over the years, I realized the importance of empowering others to be independent and resilient. That really got me started on my exciting journey of learning the Solution–Focused Approach with the Academy of Solution-Focused Training since 2008.

As I worked with different young people, building up their resilience and coaching them towards their own life goals, I began to experiment with various sports and activities and started to incorporate elements of adventure, challenge, discipline and mental toughness. So that’s why I’ve loved the nickname “Ironman Joechan” for my Facebook profile. And that evolved as well as I participated in many triathlons, marathons, dragon boating and sporting events both locally and overseas.

In December 2023, together with my wife, we were inspired to start the Fproject Initiative where we moved as a family to live abroad in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we aim to pursue a “deep health” approach for ourselves and others. So together, we hope to consolidate our knowledge, skills and experiences to work with many more individuals and families using a holistic approach towards health and wellness.

Today, I also run my private coaching practice, Ark of Hope Pte Ltd and I train and supervise professionals to be effective youth work practitioners and coaches too.

I sincerely hope and pray that my little contribution through my works and life can inspire you towards your own “ikigai” and help you discover your reason for being!
